When it came time to decide on an area of academic specialization back in 2004, I focused on what I felt I could not only make a career out of, but also what I could see myself loving for a lifetime. I wanted to write and use the freedom to transfer never-ending depths of the human imagination in outlets other people could expose themselves to.
I chose to major in English and graduated with Cum Laude honors and a B.A. from Adelphi University in 2008. My thirst for self-improvement and desire to challenge myself further led me to Hofstra University for a Master’s Degree in Journalism, class of 2011.
The project we see here is the Capstone/Thesis for that Master’s. I have a special interest in science and medical journalism—and specialized in it for my degree–but consider the opportunity to write about anything worth reading at all a virtue. I have worked as a reporter for the Long Island Herald and enjoyed every second of my job.
In the near future, I plan to explore all roads of the world of journalism. I want to get out to report a story as completely as possible as much as I want to sit behind my computer frantically trying to finish publishing its facts. Somewhere along the line, I also want to get behind the camera to lead off breaking-news stories as much as I wish to edit the multimedia and create the show behind their scenes.
I earnestly believe that my work ethic will carry me as far as my resourcefulness—and I can’t wait. I’m excited to see not only what the world has to offer but also how I can use my repertoire to impact it as much as possible.
